About Me

I am a professor of economics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), an affiliate professor of the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE), and a researcher at the Institute for Political Economy and Governance (iPEG). I hold a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California-Davis. I have been a visiting professor at Yale University and the Grantham Research Institute at the London School of Economics and a scholar at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton.

I work primarily on the economics of climate change, political economy, and welfare economics, with publications in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the American Economic Journal: Microeconomics, Theoretical Economics, and Climatic Change, among others. My book Sustainability for a Warming Planet  (Harvard University Press, 2015) was awarded the X Catalan Economic Society Award

In addition to my research activity, I have collaborated as a scientific consultant for several private foundations and the environmental (UNEP) and development (UNDP) programs of the United Nations.

I have actively engaged in educational initiatives, having taught at UPF, BSE, Yale, INSEAD-Singapore, Korea University, and the University of California. Beyond the classroom, I have often talked about teaching innovation at different meetings, including those of the European Economic Association and the Spanish Economic Association. Additionally, I developed and offered courses on teaching innovation and integrating experiments in teaching. In 2012 I received the Recognition Jaume Vicens-Vives for teaching quality and innovation from the Catalan Government. Presently, I am a contributor to the CORE-econ project, a co-editor of Experiencing Economics, and the Delegate for Teaching Innovation at UPF.
